Seniors Get NO Respect from Government

Govenrment leaders turn backs on seniors

Senior citizens who have worked most of their lives and paid into the system are now victims of the government. Funding is being cut in all levels of government regarding senior health services and long-term care assistance.

In the state of Kentucky, for example, senior citizens who have worked and paid taxes, are being told they must sell their homes and take any money saved in savings and checking accounts (leaving only $2000 in their bank accounts) and put that money in a state recovery fund before they can qualify for Medicaid.

But it doesn't stop there. Seniors cannot qualify for government assistance for personal care assistants or adult day care programs unless they are first qualified for Medicaid or they can afford private pay. And, these seniors must be assessed by someone from each program before they can receive Medicaid for each program.

The red tape and demands are outrageous. I challenge state leaders, Congress and our President to change the atrocity now. Medicare, not Medicaid, should be funding these programs. In-home care would be much less expensive then the high cost of long-term care in institutions.

Our government leaders must act now and protect our seniors from this abuse of power.
