Activists to give Obama solar panel
They want him to supply alternative energy to the White House.
Environmentalists want President Obama to remodel more than the Oval Office during his tenure.
Activists from Unity College in Maine are planning to drive a solar panel down to the White House next week in a bid to get the president to supply solar energy to his prominent home.
The bulky panel is one of the originals placed on the White House roof by President Jimmy Carter. His successor, Ronald Reagan, took the panels down.
Now the activists want them placed back as a sign that President Obama is serious about pursuing alternative energy.
The founder of 350.org, the international advocacy group behind the drive, announced the action on David Letterman's late-night show earlier this week.
The group has also started an online petition to pressure the president to comply.
A group of Unity students plan to leave Maine on Tuesday, making stops in Boston and New York City along the way to boost support for climate-friendly initiatives.
