Obama spokesman upsets liberals

He dismissed the "professional left" for giving the president a hard time.

Liberal activists are lashing back at the president's press secretary for criticizing them.

In an interview with The Hill that published Tuesday, Robert Gibbs said the professional right "wouldn't be satisfied if Dennis Kucinich was president."

He expressed frustration that activists and lawmakers alike were disappointed with the president despite his actions on Iraq and health care, two major parts of the Democratic agenda.

Despite those achievements, liberal activists have made a lot of noise against the president.

Anti-war groups have protested outside the White House against the ongoing military presence in Afghanistan, and some pro-abortion groups have criticized the health law for limiting women's access to abortions. Environmentalists and gay rights groups are also upset at delays in the Senate.

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, responded to Gibbs' comments by calling for his resignation.

"I certainly hope that people in the White House don't share his view that the left is unimportant to the president," he said, according to the Huffington Post.

The blog notes that Gibbs has since called his comments inartful.
