YouCut users embrace Democrat's plan

Citizens continue to offer cost-cutting ideas through Republican platform.

Conservative activists voted for a Democratic idea on YouCut this week.

The Republican platform that lets citizens propose ways to cut government spending. Lawmakers then put the most popular ideas up for a vote in the House.

This week's winner came from Rep. John Adler. The New Jersey Democrat originally suggested that Congress eliminate the Advance Earned Income Tax Credit to save $1.1 billion.

But once the proposal won the YouCut weekly poll, Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) criticized Adler for not working to bring it to the House floor.

In the end, Adler placed a last-minute vote in favor of the cost-cutting plan. Lawmakers knocked it down 231-179 Thursday, but Adler was among the 12 Democrats who backed it.
