Upcoming rallies in D.C.
Protests are expected to slow down in the coming weeks as lawmakers head home for a month-long recess. But several groups plan to continue their actions:
* July 31: The Kris Kato Na Oiwi of New York is holding a rally outside the White House to demand independence for the state of Hawaii. The group expects 75 people to attend.
* The Children's National Medical Center expects 150 people to attend a rally against cancer that evening at the same spot.
* The Institute for Gulf Affairs plans to have speakers discuss women's rights in Saudi Arabia at D.C.'s Dupont Circle that day.
* August 5: The Ethiopian-American Ad-Hoc Committee for Democracy expects 1,000 people to demonstrate outside the White House in support of Ethiopia.
* The D.C. Hiroshima-Nagasaki Peace Committee plans to have 500 people gather near the World War II Memorial that evening.
* August 6: A group called Pray Live Together plans to hold a prayer meeting with 150 people outside the White House.
* August 7: The Exile Democratic Forces of Burma expect 100 people to gather by the White House for an evening rally to commemorate the country's struggle for democracy.
* August 10: A group called Friends of Calvin H. Gurley expects 300 people to rally near the Environmental Protection Agency headquarters for the federal government to test lead levels in D.C. tap water.
* August 13: The Langston Economic Development Corporation has claimed the Capitol Reflecting pool area for a 500-person rally "to support grant applications for stimulus funds."
* August 15: Full Equality Now D.C. plans to have 200 people hold a counter rally to one being organized by the National Organization for Marriage .
