Congress protests against itself

Sometimes the protesters in Congress are closer than you'd think.

For the second week in a row, a small group of House Democrats protested against Senate inaction on the floor of the upper chamber, reports Niels Lesniewski.

The low-key "sit-in," led by Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.), is designed to highlight several bills which passed the House but have stalled in the Senate.

They include a proposal to make small business loans (HR 5297 ) and another that would give $6 billion in consumer rebates for making homes more energy efficient (HR 5019 ).

Among the protesters: Democratic Reps. John Larson (Conn.), Rosa DeLauro (Conn.), Danny Davis (Ill.), Gwen Moore (Wisc.), Carolyn Kilpatrick (Mich.), Ed Perlmutter (Colo.) and Jackie Speier (Calif.).

The two protests, held July 22 and 28, have not caused significant interruption in the Senate.
