Immigration activists begin trek to D.C.

Some are walking hundreds of miles for rally.

Advocates of an immigration overhaul are starting their journey to Washington, D.C., this week.

Some are walking hundreds of miles to attend a large immigration rally next Sunday. Hundreds of groups -- including labor unions, religious communities, and ethnic organizations -- are participating in the March for America .

The event is designed to get the attention of Democrats. The activists want President Obama and Democratic leaders to come through on their campaign promises to pass an immigration bill.

The groups expect thousands of people from across the nation at the March 21 rally.

Dozens of people from Arizona left on a bus towards the nation's capital Monday, reports Feet in Two Worlds , a news blog that exclusively covers immigration.

About 25 people are walking the 250 miles from New York, adds Newsday .
