Having sworn to uphold the constitution of the United States of America, I call on you to see that my second amendment rights are not infringed upon. I believe putting restrictions on the weapons I choose to own and use is unconstitutional and unfair to the millions of gun owners in this great country. I call on you to vote againt the so called "assault weapons ban". The citizens of this country have the right to have the same weapons as our police and military."Being necessary to the security of a free state" these words tell us why the citizens shall have the right to own and bear arms. I would hope you are not so shallow in your thinking to believe that any firearm is the problem or cause of the violence we have in our country. The problem is much deeper than the weapon used in these horrific crimes and our way to curb the violence must address the root of the problem. Society has changed over the years especially with the treatment of the mental illness. In the 1970’s those with mental illness were treated in hospitals and institutions. Today they are given a prescription and turned back into society. The way we deal with mental issues should be addressed to keep us all safe.
I do support allowing teachers and other faculty members to carry in the schools to keep our children safe. Obviously they would need the proper training. I also believe doing away with “gun free zones “would help eliminate the mass shootings. Consideration should be given to allow college students to carry on campus to protect them as well.
When you take away the rights of a free society, we are no longer free.
