Sen. Michael Bennet
Rep. Diana DeGette

March 9, 2013

These gun laws will only hurt law abiding citizens that only want the opportunity to protect ourselves. As Americans we should not be reacting to the tragedies that are a result of defective people who have evil in their hearts by blaming their actions on tool, an inanimate object. No, instead the course of action should be looking at their actions, their mental state of health, and how to prevent and treat these people.

These people only want to do harm, the root of this problem lies in the mind and in their soul. These people are ill mentally, they should be recognized as so but as a society we give them pills and tell them that it will help them. This approach has brought us to our current situation of not knowing what to do and blaming inanimate objects for the actions of men.

The answer is to uphold your oath of office that you took before God and the people. This oath, if focused on cura personalis (care of the person) can greatly change society. So, as a representative of the people and of our great state , I urge you to find the courage to stand for the constitution and stand for our foundational pillars, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Gun free zones do not promote life. They create an imaginary sense of security that has been pillaged by crazed gun men who don't care about rules. Magazine limits don't make anything safer, they are another illusion of a false sense of security. All of these bills are based on fear and only restrict our liberties our forefathers fought for. People who have an opportunity to defend our life and liberty will have the opportunity to pursue happiness.

I pray that you find the courage to find the root problem of violence in America, this gun control stuff is not the issue. I leave you with the words of my favorite president " My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." You are the ones that strive to make our country great, don't waste it on issues that will make our country weaker.
