H.R. 938 United States-Israel Strategic Partnership Act of 2013
Rep. Rob Woodall
Sen. Johnny Isakson
March 13, 2013
I am very concerned at the continued drift of U S foreign policy toward a policy of complete and uncritical support of the Israeli government. Secretary Hagel's recent confirmation hearings were a disgrace. For a moment I thought he was appearing in front of a committee of the Israeli Kenesset and not the U S Senate. The most recent example of Congress demonstrating its fealty to Israel is H.R. 938 United States-Israel Strategic Partnership Act of 2013. This absurd bill would actually create a relationship with Israel that not even Canada or Great Britain enjoy.
How do you expect the US to be taken seriously as a peace mediator, by the Palestinians and Arab nations, when our policies clearly show that we support Israel in such a complete manner? In the meantime Israel continues to defy established U S foreign policy positions through their massive expansion of their settlements in the occupied West Bank.
The time has come for the United State to evaluate our foreign policy towards the Middle East and make policy decisions on the basis of what is in the United States' best interest and not those of Israel. The two are not always concurrent despite what AIPAC and other pro-Israel groups might say.
