Our Post Office is NOT for Sale
Rep. Barbara Lee
Sen. Dianne Feinstein
February 23, 2013
Refunding the 50-70 billion exposed in 2002 as an accounting error is what you should be working on to stabilize the finances of the post office. The post office would not be in financial trouble if the pension surplus were refunded.
The post office employees 540,000 people with secure government jobs. The private sector would not give America that benefit.
Americans have a constitutional right to a post office that is a public service not a for profit private entity. I request you, as my representative, follow the constitution and not sell our post office buildings, which are already paid for and are public historical assets. I do not want to sell the service our post office gives us, either.
My final question to you is. If the Post Office is such a bad investment why is big real estate and private business interested in buying it? Rethink what you are loosing before you allow this sale to go forward.
