Contact Your Federal Officials

Sen. Dean Heller

March 13, 2013

I wish to respectfully express my concern, and regret, of the recent news concerning the Department of Homeland Security's efforts to purchase 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition. Clearly, this is not just an effort to provide for the training of federal agents, but hints of an effort to remove ammunition from the marketplace that gun owners wish to have for recreational and home protection purposes. This move by DHS has significantly impacted the availability of ammunition to legal gun owners and is a use of our tax dollars to deprive us of rights associated with our 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. I understand, and applaud, the Administration's efforts to curb gun violence, but this is also impacting the rights of legal gun owners and punishes them, in spite of their sincere efforts to abide by the established laws associated with gun ownership. Please take action that will limit DHS's efforts to remove ammunition from the marketplace so that we may regain access to a means by which we are attempting to protect our families. We all understand the need to ensure that our federal agents are well prepared in the event of emergencies, but there also needs to be some common sense and rationality on this matter. Please don't punish the millions of law abiding gun owners for the sins of a comparatively few miscreants.
