Don't make private property in the US illegal!!!
Rep. David Scott
Sen. Johnny Isakson
March 6, 2013
Any mandatory (or 'universal') background check law would be an unprecedented intrusion into the private property rights of law abiding citizens.
While the 'commerce clause' may justify government regulation of retail or wholesale business, it has no control over transactions between individual citizens.
Firearms are perfectly legal private property, and requiring government permission to buy, sell or use them in a non-commercial setting is completely beyond the scope of government as defined in the Constitution.
Setting this precedent is not a 'slippery slope', it's a cliff.
Allowing the government this kind of control over personal property would be devastating.
The irony is that you would literally destroy personal property rights for a problem that doesn't even exist.
Law abiding firearms owners and believers in the Constitution are watching closely.
Our support in the upcoming elections will be based primarily on the way you and your party vote on these bills.
The answer we will accept is "NO" to any bill that imposes addition restrictions on law abiding firearms owners.
Stand Firm. No compromise. We are not going away.
