Where do you stand?

Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart

March 14, 2013

Dear Representative Mario Diaz-Balart,

I wanted to start off by saying that there are many topics to which I feel strongly about, but will wait to address them at a later date. Instead, I have chosen to keep my focus on one area that seems to be facing a near term threat due to uneducated calls for action on the part of certain senior officials and the sensationalized media machine. This topic is of course in regards to gun control.

As a registered voter and “lawful” gun owner, I have spent many years not only being educated on weapons by others, but also in educating my family on the safe use of a weapon. This includes myself, wife, and two daughters ages 19 and 10. Each of my family members has been taught to safely handle, load, and shoot a number of weapons in a controlled environment.

My grandfathers and father all served in the military across multiple wars fought by the United States in defense of our freedoms and rights granted by the constitution of the United States. The Second Amendment states, “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” So I ask you directly, who is our government to try to disarm its law abiding citizens? Is it the government’s right to infringe upon the very rights to which numerous friends and family have fought to protect while risking their lives on landmasses across the globe?

Where do you stand on this topic? I ask because I need to know who I will support and who I won’t as elected officials. I am not interested in having my question answered in broad sentences aimed at calming the masses. I expect an exact definition of where you stand and the actions you are taking as my representative in Congress.

I do not want you to take my message as a threat of any kind. Instead, view it as more of a promise of action. If you make any attempts to support the unconstitutional trampling of my rights, then I will certainly exercise my 1st Amendment rights to ensure that you never serve public office again. On the flip side, if you are in favor of upholding my Constitutional rights and are actively opposing those who wish to take them away, you will rest assured that I will throw all of my support behind you as well as the support of those within my reaches across the state of Florida.

I look forward to your response both written and in the actions you take on behalf of those you “represent” in this fine state.

Naples , FL
