What Do Factory Farms Have To Hide
Sen. Jean Leising
Rep. Thomas Saunders
Vice President Mike Pence
March 7, 2013
I am writing as your constituent to urge you to oppose Senate Bill (S.B.) 373. This bill could stop investigators from documenting and exposing a pattern of routine and systematic abuse on factory farms--evidence which is preferred by authorities in prosecuting abusers. If signed into law, it would infringe on citizens' rights to expose cruelty to animals.
It also sets a dangerous precedent. What do factory farms have to hide?
Past investigations of factory farms have resulted in criminal convictions of farm supervisors and workers found beating, sexually abusing, stomping, kicking, and throwing animals. Consumers are demanding better treatment of animals killed for food, not for the industry to hide illegal acts. That is why public figures from Republican strategist Mary Matalin to animal welfare expert Temple Grandin have denounced bills like these and why similar bills have died in Minnesota, Illinois, New York, Florida, Tennessee, Nebraska, Wyoming, and New Hampshire . To watch the video footage and see why it is so important that citizens retain their freedom to collect extensive evidence of crimes against animals on factory farms and relay it to law-enforcement authorities, please visit Meat.org.
Please don't let the farming industry hide behind closed doors: oppose S.B. 373.
Thank you for your attention and for all that you do for we Hoosiers.
