UNANSWERED QUESTIONS
Why do we, the people, not have answers?
I am forwarding this letter to every press organization that I know. I have recently e-mailed it to all one hundred senators and the white house. These are very simple questions that, in my approximation, have never been answered or completely answered. I doubt I will receive a response from a single one of the hundred elected representatives I’ve sent this to. I have a hard time believing that even the news organizations will take the time to read this letter. I’m just one person. I guess that’s why I wrote it. If not our elected officials and our media, then who represents me? Thursday, November 05, 2009 I am addressing this letter to whoever will listen. I have many questions for you, but a severe shortage of answers. My opinion of our political system is in shambles, the state of our country hurts me more than my words can express. Whether it is in regards to our foreign or domestic policies, I don’t see the change that was promised. I see a health care bill bogged down in congress by a minority, that when in power, never batted an eye at the concerns their counterpart’s objections. Yet, the ones in power now are willing to afford the new minority the opportunity to voice their concerns. Will this elected majority, and the minority to an extent, put country ahead of political vitality and vote with conscientiousness? After all is said and done, what will have been sacrificed on and for their behalf? What reasons, beyond showing the rippling divide between the two schools of thought prevalent into today’s society, is there for allowing this debate to continue? I see a financial system that has torn millions of lives apart, without any negative repercussions for the instigators. The banks and their brokerage houses were written a blank check and told to go on with business as usual; while the ones they have harmed, paid for it. The stock market has almost completely recovered partly because productivity keeps going up, up, up. In reality, it is unemployment that is going up, up, up. I find no solace, and nor should the people, in the hope for a brighter economy tomorrow. Are these executives who have made millions directly from our pockets to be held accountable? Should I not be of the opinion that we the people do deserve an explanation of why there have been no punitive measures taken? Why hasn’t the Glass-Steagall Act been reinstated? Does their lobbying power and esteem throughout both the legislative and executive branches have something to do with their lack of accountability? I see two wars with no end in sight. Thousands of American’s lives and trillions of dollars spent. These horrible campaigns are merely a few months short of being the longest wars in America history. The idea of democracy in the Middle East is a failure. If it weren’t for modern medical and military technologies, I’d venture to say our death count would be similar to Vietnam. Veterans are living crippled post war lives, which seems to be acceptable as long as they aren’t a part of the mortality statistics. Let us not forget the millions who have died because of our invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan. Though I do not hold the present administration culpable for these tragedies, I do want to know what the solution is. I understand that these are very complex situations, but at what point is enough, enough? I see so many more things about our country that I don’t understand. These are just a few of the questions I have. How can I feel any other way but helpless in the face of all of these issues I have no good explanation for. Beyond helpless, I’m left feeling hopeless. How can such obvious questions not be address publicly? Where is my representation? Sincerely, David L. Crand
