HEALTHCARE REFORM
Strategy to Cover Illegal Aliens:Blanket Amnesty
On October 15 Charlie Rangel sent H.R. 3200 to the House Budget Committee as part of the Reconciliation Instructions package. SEC.3116.DEFINITION. reads, in part, as follows: ELIGIBLE INDIVIDUAL - The term 'eligible individual' means an individual who is--(A) a citizen or national of the United States or an ALIEN lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence or an ALIEN LAWFULLY PRESENT the United States...On October 5 an article by James Jay Carafano titled "Immigration reform kept behind closed doors, under wraps" appeared in the online edition of The Washington Examiner. In the article, Carafano speaks of the draft immigration 'reform' legislation currently stashed in Chuck Schumer's office awaiting 'roll out' after the first of the year. According to Carafano, the focus of the legislation predictably remains blanket amnesty for all illegals which would, of course, subsequently render them 'lawfully present' in the United States' per the above-cited definition and, therefore, 'eligible' for healthcare coverage. Given the current 'we've GOT to pass healthcare reform NOW' drumbeat continually resounding from the Left, one can easily see that the 'urgency' is simply to put the first piece in place so the second piece can be put in motion after the first of the year -all at taxpayer expense, of course.
