Ban of Water Bottles

Rep. Harry Mitchell

November 7, 2009

To those who represent the state of Arizona and our Country,

30 million single-serve bottles of water end up in landfills EVERY DAY. Experts estimates it takes about 1,000 years for plastic to degrade and in the process of doing so may be leeching chemicals into the ground contaminating local groundwater supplies.

In addition to ending up in the landfills, endless bottles find their way to the ocean, contributing to the stew of plastic that's accumulated in the Pacific Ocean. Captain Charles Moore, founder of the Plastic Stew says, "If you eliminate the scourge of bottled water, you'll be eliminating one of the biggest problems facing our environment."

We'd love to see you lend your face to a cause that helps repair our dilapidated water infrastructure system. In about 15 years, two-thirds of the world will lack access to clean drinking water. It's imperative that we unite and support our local water municipalities.
