Vote NO for HR 2962

To:
Rep. David Price

November 6, 2009

Vote "NO" for H.R. 3962 if it is put up for a vote.

Although the Obama administration has promised accessibility, affordability, choice, and portability in health care with no tax hikes and no increase in costs, HR 3962 promises to limit choice and accessibility, strain an already overtaxed tax base, and almost double the national debt. Despite goals to provide universal benefits, experts predict that 10 to 20-million will remain uninsured, while the cost to society will be astronomical.

Even a brief reading of the bill reveals:
• Medicare funds will need to be slashed to afford this "reform" -- $150-billion from Medicare Advantage alone (Section 1161);
• The sale of private insurance will be prohibited beginning in 2013 (Section 202c);
• The bill establishes a "Health Benefits Advisory Committee" to dictate what health benefits will be available (Section 223);
• There is nothing that prohibits illegal immigrants from receiving Obamacare;
• Provisions for "reproductive services" would likely include government financed abortions (Section 222e);
• A new "Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research" would certainly lead to rationed care and deny access to lifesaving treatments on grounds of cost (Section 1401);
• Panels will likely dictate the number of specialists and where they will practice, a clear infringement on the personal freedom of physicians. (A recent Gallup poll indicated that 45% of physicians would quit practice if Obamacare is passed );
• HR 3962 will impose taxes on those who cannot afford "bureaucrat-approved health coverage"; an 8% tax for firms that cannot afford coverage; a half-trillion dollar "surcharge" on the wealthy; and additional taxes on medical devices and supplies (Sections 501,512, 551 and 552);
• Obamacare could add an estimated 10-million employees to government roles, and turn over more than 15% of the GDP to government control. The US government does not have a history of running any large program effectively;
• the CBO and independent sources predict that Obamacare will cost an additional $1-trillion over the next decade at a time when our GDP is floundering, the unemployment rate is at record highs, and the public debt is at its highest ever; and,
• cost savings can only reasonably be attained by reducing fees, restricting utilization, and rationing services, which Americans are unwilling to accept.

It is unconscionable that Congress would consider passing a bill that is partisan, unread and poorly understood by our representatives, and crafted in private without public or bipartisan input. There are many other ways to improve American medical care beside Obamacare.

Vote "NO" to HR 3962 and let's go back to the table.
