In the late 70's Jimmy ( the peanut) Carter used a trick to win the presidency. He took the, then current, inflation rate and added it to the unemployment rate. The result is what he called the "Misery Index".
The "misery index" applied to the president only, so Jimmy the peanut didn't have one. Since the index was an invention of Jimmy the peanut, it could not be compared to any other president. President Fords "Misery Index" was 12.5 %. That high number drove voters wild. Ford was voted out of office, peanuts was Americas new president.
Four years latter, presidential challenger Ronald Reagan brought peanuts' "Misery Index" to Americas attention. Peanuts "Misery Index" was a whopping 21.9%. Peanuts did not like the use of his misery index but - HEY , it was his invention so what was his problem?
I'm to lazy to look it up, I think Bushes misery index was about 12% when he left office, 8% unemployment and 4% inflation.
orbamas "Misery Index" is huge and growing.
It's no secret, business concerns from mom and pop stores to international sized businesses are doing everything they can to cut costs. The biggest cost factor is employees so they get fired. Business owners are frightened of the consequences of orbamas actions and what else he may do so they are preparing for the worst. They have to protect their business.
The domino effects kicks in now, if a person has no job of course he has no money to pay bills or spend. Everybody feels his job loss.
Job losses were increasing before orbama took over but his policies have put business owners into the panic mode and job losses are increasing by the minute.
At the moment inflation rates are artificially being held down, I have no idea what it might be if the FED had not gotten involved.
Anyhow, orbama has 2 "Misery Index" numbers, the published one and the real one, lets use Septembers number for inflation, the last one available.
The " published" unemployment figures include only the people who are collecting unemployment checks. The real numbers do not count people whose unemployment benefits have run out nor do they count people who are forced into minimum wage jobs because they can not find jobs to support their families.
Typically these minimum wage jobs are part time and have no benefits like health care insurance. These people have to work 2 - 3 or more part time jobs to make ends meet -- sort of.
Currently the nation wide unemployment figure is 10.2 %, The real number is 17.5%.
So, orbamas published "misery index" is 15.7%....
the real "Misery Index" is 23.0%
WAY TO GO orbama. YOU WIN AGAIN.... OF COURSE THE TAXPAYER LOOSES ----------AGAIN.
