current house bill on health care

November 6, 2009
To all,
I would like to express first of all outrage over the way the current Speaker of the House, Nany Pelosi, has tried to ram a "health care" bill through Congress without proper research, support, or time allowed to analyze the impact of this bill on our economy and our lives.
Not only is this bill almost 2000 pages long, no one seems to know what it contains or how it would be applied once passed. This is a most irresponsible way to introduce a bill that would have such wide spread ramificiations for our entire society and our entire healthcare system.
As a registered nurse for over 25 years who has worked primarily in a hospital setting, I believe any attempt at "overhauling" our current system of healthcare delivery, payment, reimbursement etc is not only dangerous, but extremely short sighted.
Why the rush President Obama on such an important part of everyone's lives? Due diligence in research, ecomonic ramifications, impact on families and employers and multiple other avenues is not only required but should be mandated before any bill is even written, much less put worth for a vote without any of the above having been done.
This is not only irresponsible on the part of the current House and Senate leadership-it is negligent in every way and in my view just supports the notion that our current leadership not only doesn't care what their constituents want-they are actively trying to thwart what they want.
I believe the American electorate will not only be outraged at this attempt to overtake a very private part of their lives and constitutionally protected rights, but that there will be a much needed cleaning of House (and Senate) if this bill indeed passes.
It is time for all in Congress and for you, the President of the United States, to recall that we are a democratic republic and that your job is to represent the people you were elected to represent (remember government "of he people, by the people, for the people"?).
Finally, if this is such a good bill and what you perceive the people want-then your first order of business should be to require that the bill applies to every member of Congress, every elected official and you, the President of the United States. No more exempting yourselves from the mandates you so onerously place on the good people of this country.
Thank you for taking the time to read my opinions and I would respectfully request a non-canned reply from each of your offices.
