Ending LGBT Health Disparities Act
To: Rep. Steny Hoyer
November 5, 2009
Dear Representative:
My name is Tammy DePhillip. I am a Political Science student at Bridgewater College in Virginia. I am a resident of Waldorf, Maryland.
If the Ending LGBT Health Disparities Act becomes a law, many members of the LGBT community will receive the many of the same rights that a majority of Americans enjoy. Ending LGBT Health Disparities Act would extend the definition of "spouse" and "marriage" that are currently limited under the Defense of Marriage Act.
I am aware that you must be receiving many letters from your constitutes on the issue of health care but I would like you to know where I stand on this issue. Passing this piece of legislation in the House will make a huge step towards equality for all Americans. The LGBT community is often looked down upon and ignored because of their sexual orientation. Our nation has moved passed prejudices before and I feel that the time has come to address another large prejudice instead of simply sweeping the issue under the rug.
