RE: The Inability to write off Medical costs from my annual taxes
To: Rep. Jane Harman
November 5, 2009
I am very upset that I had $2200 in medical / pharmaceutical costs that I was unable to write off on my taxes last year because it was just under the 7.5% that the IRS allows. My adjusted gross income was $30,000 last year and I can not write off my health care expenses???? This law needs to be amended and revised ASAP. I have pre-existing conditions, on unemployment and can not get medical coverage. If that is not bad enough, I can not write off my medical expenses on my taxes, so I have to eat the cost of the limited care I receive and pay taxes on the unemployment compensation that I receive as well. I am NOT being helped and I know I am not alone! I'm sure thousands of Californians are having problems with the same issues. We are in need of your leadership and support.
