PLEASE VOTE NO on the "closed rule" for H.R. 3962. Please allow a vote on the Stupak Amendment.
To: Rep. Jerry Lewis
November 5, 2009
Dear Representative Lewis,
My name is John Slaughter. I have met you on a few occasions in relationship to the outstanding support you show for the protection of Joshua Tree National Park and it's economic impact to, not only the City of 29 Palms but also your district as a whole.
Your senior role in Congress as well as your ability to stay true to your constituents is a contributing factor, I believe to your longevity as our Representative. You will continue to have the votes of both me and my wife, Julianne, as long as we are living in your district and as long as you are running for office.
Today I am writing you to ask that you PLEASE VOTE NO on the “closed rule” for H.R. 3962. I am a firm believer that the issues that are of the most importance to this country should be vetted and worked through the political process to the fullest extent possible. Not allowing a vote on the Stupak Amendment closes the door to allow the true democratic process to take shape. It is a well written, coherent and pointed bipartisan approach to add some sort of traditional values to this Bill.
Although I have issues with many of the other topics in H.R. 3962, the ability to allow both Republicans and Democrats representatives to vote with this amendment included. It would be the proper way to approach this topic. My fear is that some leadership in Washington D.C. do not want this amendment included as it very well may pass with support from both side thus solidifying the people's wish that no additional federal funding be diverted to support the anti-life movement.
PLEASE VOTE NO on the "closed rule" for H.R. 3962. Please allow a vote on the Stupak Amendment.
