Health Care Reform
To: Rep. Michael Turner
November 4, 2009
The current health care bill under consideration of the house, at a length of nearly 2000 pages cannot and must not be passed. The sheer volume of the bill alludes to its ability to swell government both is size, influence over average American's daily lives and cost to the taxpayer. I unfortunately have no trust or respect for the present speaker and do not believe her claim that this "reform" can possibly reduce the budget deficit, or improve the cost and care that the majority of Americans receive. The Constitution of the United States does not grant the federal government the power to control health care and does not approve this intrusion of the government into the daily lives and freedom over each individual's person. If the present Congress does not use the Constitution as their guide on every piece of legislation they dishonor the founders who wrote the document at risk of losing their fortunes and lives, and betray the electorate that bestowed upon them the honor of being elected their representative.
Throughout history it has been American ingenuity, work ethic and desire to do the thing that is difficult that has made us exceptional. Here we place in high regard the ability to earn what we get. I do not expect the government to give me a handout nor do I want a government handout. While I recognize that there are times when a person is unable to gain access to necessary health care, there are already government programs that cost more, and have a larger bureaucracy than their creators could have forseen or intended. Rather than allow the Congress to highjack yet another private industry, please do all in your power to uphold American ideals, limit the size and scope of government and work to achieve health care reform that lowers costs thus making care accessible to those who want it. I believe this can be done by limiting government regulation and frivolous lawsuits. While this is a simplistic proposal I believe it is the basis of any reform that keeps the government within its constitutional regulatory limits.
