HB 3962

To:
Rep. Chet Edwards

November 4, 2009

For God's sake, slow down this insanity! This abomination will cost far more than we can afford, yet do irreparable harm to both our health care system and most small-to-medium sized employers in this country. There is good reason why the efforts of "progressive" administrations since the 1930's to take control of the health care system have been turned away by Congress in the past. And don't point to the VA system and Medicare as "successes"...the VA system is overburdened with bureaucracy and has always been an example of an unresponsive, red-tape ridden system, despite the fact that it serves a limited population with a clearly-defined mission. Medicare has grossly exceeded all cost projections from the word go, and a strong argument can be made that it drives up medical costs for the entire population by forcing cost shifting on most providers, whether they admit it or not. In addition, the platitudes about "lowering costs" for businesses might apply to large unionized companies, but anyone who believes the same would hold true for any other employer needs to quit drinking the Beltway KoolAid. Personally, I would rather keep my business open and providing a livelihood for our 75 employees, but that will become exponentially more difficult if anything like this bill becomes law.
