Sir:
I encourage you to be part of the solution to health care. Big Insurance and Pharmaceutical Co. lies have persuaded many Americans that the public option is a sure way to higher taxes, bigger deficits, and mismanaged health care.
How on earth do the Democrats expect anyone to see them as leaders when all they do is put out fires, deny GOP lies, and present the American public with a 2000 page bill. 2000 pages!
Let your model be Lincoln's Gettysberg Address, not bureaucratic legalese (which will no doubt be shot through with exceptions and loop holes).
Keep it clean and simple.
We already pay for poor people to get health care: at emergency rooms. We need a public option to care for the poor and those with catastrophic illnesses that no insurance company can afford.
We need to have negotiated prices for drugs. And we need to come down hard on frauds and cheats, be they doctors or grannies. It enrages people to see commercials in which smug "victims" brag about gaming the system. Get the system fixed!
Time favors the party out of power. Better get cracking. Better start pushing your colleagues to quit protecting big insurance companies, quit running scared from liars like Rush and Hannity, and find both the intelligence and the conjones to do the right and the wise thing.
