Rural "Last Mile" Broadband

To:
Governor James Douglas
Sen. Dick Sears
Sen. Robert Hartwell
Rep. Rick Hube

November 3, 2009

Dear Governor Douglas,
This letter is in regard to the "Last Mile" Broadband initiatives supported by both you and President Obama, and the possibility of them helping about 40 rural Vermont families.
I am a resident of Bondville and live in a section which is currently not served by either telephone based broadband or cable, does not have access to wireless or cellular broadband because of either our very rural location or geography.
Late last week I learned that Comcast Cable comes to within about a mile of a group of homes representing these approximately 40 potential subscribers. Although they seem to be trying to be helpful, our needs do not seem to fit their business model.
Is there any possibility of getting some help from either the State or Federal plan? Any help you can provide regarding this possibility or otherwise bringing broadband to these families and their children will be greatly appreciated by all of us.

Bondville , VT
