Our precious water supply

As an individual who values health, I am deeply concerned about the quality of our public water supply as well as the proliferation of bottled water.
Most tap water is polluted by dirty municipal infrastructure. The underground pipes in the majority of large cities is made of iron, which over time corrodes. Clean water flowing through these pipes becomes contaminated with rust. Eventually the pipes rupture, not only causing water loss but introducing pollutants and diseases from the ground into the water.
The public water supply has also been shown to contain various pharmaceutical drugs. These drugs are not eliminated by water purification systems and the long-term effect of consuming them is unknown. However, it does seem to impact plants and animals that inhabit water.
So if we refrain from drinking tap water, what are our alternatives? Many people purchase bottled water, which brings a whole host of other problems.
Certain plastics contaminate the water, which we ingest. Some scientists suggest that everyone contains at least 4-5 pounds of plastic. Our oceans are bogged down with plastic waste, which takes thousands of years to deteriorate.
Privitizing water raises more concerns. Drinking pure, clean water is a public right and necessity. Please educate yourself and act to ensure our right to safe, pure drinking water.
