Dear Sirs -
I am a US expatriate living in Japan, but a prior NY City resident and a registered voter in that state. For 5 years I have lived overseas, working throughout Asia and interacting with citizens from around the world.
As an American, I was embarrassed by the previous administration, their ill conceived war in Iraq, the poorly executed campaign in Afghanistan, and general erosion of civil liberties for all Americans.
My international friends and colleagues, who stood in solidarity with the US after 9/11, we're equally aghast at the rhetoric and behavior of the Bush administration and the Republican party.
Luckily, Our new President, and Congress are pointing our country in a better, brighter direction, and for that I am grateful. But too many compromises and internal infighting are weakening our position.
And so with health care, I ask that you hold steady on a public option. Hold steady on a mandate that All Americans need basic coverage, and hold steady on getting this Bill passed now.
What better way to tell the world that America has changed and that we are ready to once again lead the world.
