Hello' i am a mother of 3 kids. I reside in norfolk and have for 8 years.. I recently seperated from my husband over a year ago and have found that it is hard to maintain without help. I obtained a second job to take care of my kids. Had a slight setback and turned to my government for help. Went to the department of social sservices and was told that i make to much money for them to help me. I lost my apartment and have been living in a hotel for 3 weeks. the waiting list for getting into a shelter was full and the program where divirsionary funds are available were denied to me. I have come to the realization that your system was created to keep black families in poor situations. I was told that I had to make no more than $350 a month in order to receive help. my funds will soon run out and will be on the streets with 3kids. My things is how can your system deny giving help to someone who has a better chance of becoming self-sufficient with the income that I make as oppose to someone with no or little income.I am a tax paying citizen that when in need can not turn to our government that is placed to help us tax paying folks. I am disappointed in the system Va has in placed to black families down.
