Health Care Reform

We need health care reform now! Small businesses cannot afford to continue offering health care at the rates the insurance industry charges. As an owner in a small business health insurance is the largest bill I have each month, next to payroll. We are barely hanging on and getting NO help from anyone, unlike the big corporations who already get plenty of tax breaks. This past year we cut positions and decreased everyone's pay at least 20%. Now we received our health insurance renewal - a 22% INCREASE! And we had a $20,000 decrease in claims. It just isn't right. It cannot be justified. But we are stuck, we have no options as all carriers in our area have about the same rates. We have no way to pool our employees into a larger group, we have no buying power. We will no longer be able to afford to provide health insurance to our employees unless something changes. Personally I don't understand why health insurance is an employment benefit - if it were more affordable to buy individually it would be better, just like car insurance. Please stop dithering, stop listening to the insurance lobby and fix this broken system. Too many people have no insurance & too many people are just one health emergency away from bankruptcy - and in this great country that is just not right.
