I would like for you to know my feelings on health care. I believe that it is a right, I believe that all citizens should have equal access to health care. I want to see a change in our system that reduces the cost to consumers. I want insurance companies to have real competition. I want a STRONG, ROBUST public option. And this is why.....
I have a twin sister. We are 38. She has had Rheumatoid Arthritis since we were 21. She has had many days that she could not get out of bed. She has serious damage to most of her joints. Since her diagnosis she has only had insurance for approximately 2 years. For 15 years she has not been covered by insurance, time after time she was either turned down or quoted a rate that was impossible to pay. Rheumatoid Arthritis is debilitating. There are many medications and procedures that would have helped her over the years but she could not afford it. Most of the damage that has been done to her body is not reversible. This is not fair to her as an American citizen. We live in the best country in the world and yet my sister can not get a basic human need met because of insurance companies caring more about the bottom line than my sister with Arthritis. Please do everything you can to make sure that what happened to my sister does not happen to others. Tax payers will end up paying her bills when she becomes disabled which did not have to happen if she could have received the care that she deserved.
