The cap and trade bill will destoy the refining industry in the United States and make the unemployment figures much worse. Many oil companies are openly saying that they will move their refineries out of the country because they cannot operate them profitably under cap and trade. Already my clients have pushed back so many projects that we have laid off half the workforce and closed offices in Lafayette and Covington. That's over 300 high-paying Louisiana jobs gone in anticipation of cap and trade. With unemployment at 10%, this is not the time to even think about cap and trade legislation. It will not help the environment one bit, because the refineries will pollute even more than they do now when they move overseas, and U.S. security will suffer if we start importing most of our refined product in addition to crude. Please kill this bill and do it now.
