The Majority of Americans Back a Government Public Option

Rep. Dan Boren

October 27, 2009

I want to thank all members of Congress who believe that looking out for the American public interest is still, the main reason why they chose to be in office. America's dreams and ideals can only be as great; as the leadership it has in Congress.

Our committment to a greater national purpose, which embodys protection for all Americans is what this country was founded on. It is the message, we send to other countries that democracy works, people matter, and looking out for the common interest of its citizens is what makes a country great.

Today, more than ever, the American public and nations around the world are looking to see just how well our own government intends to help its citizens in regards to healthcare reform.

This is a chance to show other nations that we do care about protecting our own and in turn, we can justify the message we send to other countries regarding the importance of human life.

Today, more than ever, it is time to for Congress to focus on protecting equal access to fundamental needs to all citizens such as education, nutrition, access to housing, and healthcare.

Because, how we ultimately chose to solve these issues will be a reflection on how we, as a society, truly understand and care for each other in this country.
