Subject:
Open hearings on health care reform
To: Rep. Patrick Kennedy
October 27, 2009
Dear Congressman Kennedy:
My sense is that you already favor public participation in the upcoming congressional hearings on health care reform. The presence of physicians, care providers, families, people with chronic illness, retirees and ESPECIALLY those who support a strong public option will be crucial in assuring an equitable and effective reform of our nation's health care system. These decisions cannot be made with ANY perception on the part of voters that insurance and pharmaceutical companies, with their massive political influence through donations and lobbying efforts, have once again eroded the democratic process of policy-making to their own benefit and to the detriment of the common citizen.
Please do all in your power to assure that these deliberations be conducted in a open, transparent and democratic arena. Thank you.
