Hi,
I hope this message gets to Dennis, personally.
I was at a talk he gave at Transylvania College in Lexington, Ky earlier this year, and i bought his book, "Courage to Survive". I loved his story.
Well, survive is what we are trying to do and are hoping he will find the time and heart to help us, some way, some how.
We have a small business, just opened, and we are having the damndest time getting financing to help us. No bank will partner with the Small Business Association even tho the SBA will probably back a loan... It's horrible. This is my daughter's business and I am and have been a single parent for many years, and believe with all my heart and mind in what she is doing. I have already invested my life savings of 25,000.00 and used my home equity and obtained personal lines of credit to help pay for the opening. We ran into some unexpected bad luck at the beginning to the tune of having to pay $42,000.00 to bring the circa 1900 building up to code. We have some other investors, friends, but it's been very scary. However, we are determined. My daughter is multi-talented and generous, both spiritually and emotionally. Our business is called Aquarius Star & OM Cafe.
It's in the best inner-city neighborhood in Cincinnati full of walkers, bike-riders, skaters, and community minded enormously diverse residents including handicapped, elderly, students, multicultural, mutiracial, religious diversity and wealthier ones including professors and doctors working at the nearby universities and hospitals.There is a library, post office, IGA Grocery, CVS pharmacy, one owner Ace Hardware, small independent theater, fire station and police station right in the neighborhood. Residents walk everywhere here. It's very much like a small town!
We think this neighborhood, businesses such as our little store and our values of local, sustainable, progressive. community minded ways of living are just the thing for what ails America, Americans and especially ourselves.
What we would like is a visit and some moral boosting from Dennis and hopefully Elizabeth. We have a "green" Cafe [called the Om Cafe, -mostly organic healthy food] and retail area called Aquarius Star conscious retail [spiritual support for all paths, merchandise from local artisans and small families & businesses, great books] and a spiritual center that is already
booked for local events, including workshops, music, poetry readings, old fashioned open mic, book signings and alternative healing practitioners. I am a nurse, Reiki and other energy healer, as well as a psychotherapist.
We are employing local young people who also believe in what we are doing, and walk to work. Some don't even own a car. And we would like to give them [and ourselves] heath insurance, and we all know where that is going. In the tank.
We would love Dennis and /or Elizabeth to come and visit and create some excitement for our little place. Many if not most of our customers -and friends - know about and like Dennis as much as we do. We also would like assistance in getting a loan to stay in business, we are paying exorbitant CREDIT CARD DEBT that we used to open. The bail-out money that we know is NOT going to us for our business would REALLY HELP US maybe even stay afloat or prosper.
Please try to see that Dennis gets this request.
