First-Time HomeBuyer Tax Credit
To: Rep. Edward Markey
October 25, 2009
Hello Congressman Markey, I am writing to urge you and your colleagues to extend the 1st-Time Home-buyer's Tax Credit of $8,000. My wife and I have found the perfect condo in Malden, but it is a Short Sale property, meaning we have been waiting for a total of 10 weeks to receive approval from the seller's bank, and we are now in danger of missing the Nov. 30 deadline for the credit.
The $8,000 tax credit is vital to our ability to purchase this property. We have outstanding credit, have never missed payments on any bills, and have stayed within a home budget which is affordable with our incomes. The reason this tax credit is paramount to us is to a) allow is to have a sufficient emergency fund in case one of us loses our job, and b) give us the option to be able to purchase an automobile if we deem it necessary at this location (we currently do not have a car).
This tax incentive was one of several reason we decided to jump into the housing market. It is true that we will be able to afford our mortgage payments with or without the tax credit, however, our safety net will be uncomfortably low without it.
This tax credit is needed in the short-term to preserve the recovery in the national, and Massachusetts housing markets and to maintain the value of the property that we will be purchasing. And it is certainly much needed for our hard-working family.
