First Time Homebuyer Tax Credit

After reading your recent newsletter I have a few questions:

1. As we rebuild our economy, President Obama and Congress are working to help Americans purchase new homes and revive the housing market. Earlier this year, we enacted the First Time Homebuyer Tax Credit, which covers up to $8,000 toward the cost of a new home for first-time buyers in 2009
a. In a recent response on taxes you stated "However, we must be sure that any revision to the tax code is fair to all Americans." Please tell me how this is "fair to all Americans". This program has little effect on the larger problem facing our nation and only adds further to the debt. Between TARP and ARRA you have added ~$1.8 TRILLION to the nation's total debt or ~$5,600 each for every American. Do you really want to stimulate the economy? Then why not give each of us our money back and let all of us use it to buy things for our home or purchase a home?
2. Already, the tax credit has helped thousands of Ohio middle-class families benefit from the security and stability of owning their home. It's important for you to know that the tax credit is set to expire at the end of November. I'm working with my Senate colleagues to extend the tax credit until May 2010 to help strengthen our communities and continue turning around our economy.
a. Again, please tell me this is fair to all Americans? We already own a home and would greatly stimulate the economy by using our $28,000 (family of 5 at $5,600 per person) to repair or upgrade our 16 year old home with more energy efficient appliances and repairs so we continue to have a thriving neighborhood.

Do not extend this program and stop spending our money programs that benefit just a few Americans. Give us our money back and be fair to all Americans!

Important Information about the First Time Homebuyer Tax Credit
October 2009

Dear John,

Part of the middle-class dream is to own a home, to be part of a thriving neighborhood, and to support the schools and communities in which we live and work.

As we rebuild our economy, President Obama and Congress are working to help Americans purchase new homes and revive the housing market. Earlier this year, we enacted the First Time Homebuyer Tax Credit, which covers up to $8,000 toward the cost of a new home for first-time buyers in 2009
