At the Etowah County Jail, eight corrections officers have been trained and given the authority to hold people on immigration violations who already are incarcerated. The sheriff's office started participating in the program in July 2008, according to a spokeswoman there.

The changes to the program are aimed at creating uniformity and improving accountability and transparency, ICE officials said.

"The whole focus of the revised program is to make sure we're going after the right priorities, mainly criminal offenders," John Morton, assistant secretary for ICE, said during a news conference Friday.

Critics, including the National Immigration Forum, on Friday continued to call for the program to end.

Expanding misguided and ineffective immigration enforcement program like the 287 (g) program does not bring us closer to an immigration system that works," Ali Noorani, executive director of the National Immigration Forum in Washington, said in a prepared statement.

I am fully aware there is little you can do about this issue, but anything you can do would be very appreciated.

Ali Noorani and a hundred more who are provided a great deal of money are actively quoted in the Newspaper articles of the United States. American Citzens are not: we are not hot new.. we merely react to it.

The Immigration Law is not broken. What we do have is are three administration and three sets of Congress who did not want to fund the Border Patrol, and did not want to enforce the law. Oh yes.. it does look broke, but the polls, which are the only way we have been allowed to speak on this issue, tell a very clear story. ALL the illegal aliens who go to jail should be deported. ALL OF THEM. At that point, the Immigration Laws are back in effect and the will of the people will have been respected.
