health Insurance Reform

I am a member of the increasingly large Independent voting category. I am concerned by the direction that health care reform is taking and will NOT support re-election for anyone who moves us closer to a government dominated health care system.
We need to focus on moving away from employer-sponored health care and back toward individual purchase of major medical plans with a smorgasboard of standard plans which cover increasingly complete health care at an additional cost. Consumers need to choose their level of care based on what they can afford to pay. Until the consumer is back in the eqation costs will not come down. Insurance should not pay for every little thing.
We need tort reform badly. Economic damages should not be limited, but punitive damages should be. These cost and the defensive medicine they foster are a major contributor to costs.
If the legislation that comes out of Congress does not embody these goals and moves us toward more mandated benefits while socializing cost I will vote for new representation. Thank you.
