If you so badly want to fix health care then do the following: stop drug company advertising, stop drug companies from releasing medications that kill or injure people (litigation adds to the price of the product), stop non-emergency treatment in emergency rooms, everyone that is treated in this country must be a citizen, institute tort reform, police doctors and hospitals for bad practices and TAKE SOME ACTION AGAINST THEM, allow insurance companies to cross state lines, allow insurance companies to lower my premiums for a health lifestyle. Then make it mandatory that people sign up for private health care if they can afford it. The rest are already covered under Medicaid and Medicare.
Now, we already have government health care: VA, Medicare and Medicaid. You have robbed from Social Security to pay for Medicaid so SS is almost broke. All of these programs are running a deficit and will be broke in the next few years. If you really want to do something, FIX THE CURRENT SYSTEMS SO THEY ARE FUNCTIONAL! If you can't do that, then I can't trust you to slick you fingers into my and my families health care. Please stop this madness - it will only increase the debt that my children, their children and my children's grandchildren will be paying.
A good example of non-insured is a friend. They made the choice not take out health insurance and instead purchased a motorhome travel in. They were 56 and 57. They intended to wait for Medicare. She had a stroke and subsequently had three brain surgeries, then 10 days in ICU where she finally died. Her husband will loose everything but his house and car. These are the uninsured in this country - they make over $50,000 per year and choose not to have health insurance. Everyone else that can't afford health care is covered under the failing Medicaid program, the VA program or Medicare.
Clean up the government and then come tell me you want to do something new. The government has made a mess of most all programs it has instituted and will continue to do so until you all get some sense and do the right thing instead of pandering to your contributors and special interest groups. THIS IS NOT A SOCIALIST COUNTRY! I just want you to fix all the failed programs that you have already passed and stop taxing me for all the waste and fraud in these programs.
