I support the president's position that illegal aliens should not receive federal health care benefits, but I need to see the verification language before I believe it.
The only way to ensure the President's plan would not cover illegal aliens is to require applicants to verify their legal status before receiving benefits. Nearly all government welfare programs and many other public programs use the Systematic Alienage Verification for Entitlements (SAVE). There should be bi-partisan support for a mandatory verification system as part of any health care package.
The current controversy is over verification. Everyone seems to agree that federal benefits shouldn't go to people here illegally. You can help the president back up his promise by including a mandatory verification system in the final health care bill.
