My wife and I are productive members of middle class society, yet we do not have health insurance. We have been denied coverage because I am medically obese and I have a history of migraine and asthma.
I want the right, to purchase health insurance equal to or better than my peers who work for the federal government or with private companies. I have $10,000 to $13,000 a year I can easily afford to pay to cover my family. I need the government to step in and stop the insurance companies from cherry picking the healthy people, and low risk groups.
I need comprehensive health care reform enacted now. I have written letters local, regional, and national new outlets to publically ask my federal representatives (President Barack Obama, Senators Jim Webb and Mark Warner, as well as Representative Frank Wolf) to support a health care reform bill that includes the following features:
• Insurance must be equally available to individuals without regard to employment,
• Insurance must cover preexisting conditions,
• Insurance companies cannot drop or weaken coverage when people get sick,
• Insurance companies must be free to offer national plans,
• Individuals must be able to buy in to the same health insurance coverage available to federal employees, and
• Federal buying power must be applied to prescriptions so that the cost of drugs can be lowered.
