Subject:
I am disgusted with the Senate Finance Committee bill

To:
President Barack Obama
Sen. Patty Murray
Sen. Maria Cantwell
Rep. Dave Reichert

September 29, 2009

Baucus has sold his soul and the American people out to the health insurance industry. In spite of Senator Cantwell's heroic effort to amend the Senate Finance Committee bill to include a public option, the committee bowed to industry pressure. Unless the final bill includes a 'no trigger public insurance plan' we have gained nothing as a nation.

My retirement is in the tank, my home value has plummeted, I am spending more and more every year on health care. After watching trillions of tax dollars fund the industrial military complex and its senseless war mongering, and reward the greedy parasites on Wall Street, congress and President Obama had better deliver a public option or I will abandon any remaining hope that the Federal Government can affect any positive change for the American people.

The economy continues to balance over the precipice. US economic influence in the world is declining. We are moving toward a permanent reduction in the US standard of living. Let's add the unstated, yet enormous cost of greenhouse gas reduction and efforts to mitigate the serious impacts that climate change will have on our country. We have had negative wage growth over the past decade. Enormous numbers of people are losing their homes and there are more than 7 million additional forclosures projected for the next three years. Should I go on?

Of course, the wealthy and business interests have their safety net in the US Government!

Do not think that for one moment that large numbers of Americans will stand by while Congress guts any meaningful health care reform. Without meaningful healthcare reform the American people and families will continue to be raped by the insurance industry until there is no more left to give.

Remember, any nation is only one major crisis away from collapse. Once the middle class has been raped too many times, they will turn on their government with dire consequences.

When enough people like me, faithful tax payers, participants in the political process, solid middle class get this disillusioned, there are grave problems in our country that must not be allowed to worsen.
