Subject:
Extend the first-time home buyers tax credit
To: Rep. Jane Harman
September 29, 2009
Dear Members of Congress,
As a married couple currently going through the process of purchasing our first home (at ages 50 and 57 respectively), I am writing to ask for your consideration in extending the First Time Home Buyers Tax Credit past the original deadline of November 30, 2009.
We began working with our bank back in June 2009 and as of this date, (September 29, 2009) we have not yet completed the process due to the many new rules and requirements that are now a part of the financial approval process.
While I fully support a mortgage approval process that carefully reviews applicants to ensure that the fatal financial mistakes of the past are not repeated in the future, the arduous task of getting through the gauntlet of the review and re-review of financial documents and the many new restrictions regarding down payments, credit scores, and current debts has slowed down the home purchase process to a crawl at best.
Please consider that due to our new lending practices (and the reluctance of many, many financial institutions to make loans), Americans could use a bit more time to make their dreams come true, and extending the deadline on this wonderful program to July 1st of 2010 would be a godsend to many, both home sellers and home buyers.
Let's face it - extensions to members of Congress have been handed out right and left (remember your missed and then extended deadlines for a health care plan?) and the American People deserve the same sort of breaks.
Please extend the deadline 6 months - it will go a long way to show We the People that you are still on our side.
