H.R.2159 & S.1317
To: Rep. Leonard Lance
September 26, 2009
Once again an individual from one of our more crime-ridden states (New Jersey), Mr. LAUTENBERG, seeks to institute gun control in proposed legislation S.1317
Laws already in existence cover all the provisions of S.1317 with the exception of the following clause:
(g) Attorney General's Ability To Withhold Information in Firearms License Denial and Revocation Suit-
(1) IN GENERAL- Section 923(f)(1) of title 18, United States Code, is amended by inserting after the first sentence the following: `However, if the denial or revocation is pursuant to subsection (d)(3) or (e)(1)(C), any information upon which the Attorney General relied for this determination may be withheld from the petitioner, if the Attorney General determines that disclosure of the information would likely compromise national security.'.
It appears to me that this is granting extraordinary power to the Attorney General and denying an individual their right to confront their accuser.
I grant you that a terrorist may not necessarily be aware of the fact that he (or she) is suspected of plotting a terrorist act and it would be in the national best interest that they not be made aware of that fact but, do you really think that someone plotting a terrorist act would apply for a transfer of a firearm. NOT LIKELY since they are already likely to be criminals, they can't get a license of any type to purchase a firearm. This bill is merely an attempt by the senile Mr. LAUTENBERG to appeal to many of the liberals in New Jersey. It probably will be his last term in the Senate before it is recognized by the voters of New Jersey that this is a senile man and he, along with Jon Corzine, will be soon be collecting unemployment.
Stand up for the voters of Massachusetts (In Case You Forgot, you do represent us or at least you are supposed to) and get this piece of garbage relegated to the dung pile where it belongs.
In the House of Representative, one only has to look at the cosponsors of the House Version H.R.2159 to see a very similar scenario. For your info the cosponsors are:
Rep Bishop, Timothy H. [NY-1]
Rep Castle, Michael N. [DE]
Rep Israel, Steve [NY-2]
Rep Kirk, Mark Steven [IL-10]
Rep Lance, Leonard [NJ-7]
Rep McCarthy, Carolyn [NY-4]
Rep Moran, James P. [VA-8]
Rep Rangel, Charles B. [NY-15]
Rep Smith, Christopher H. [NJ-4]
Rep Towns, Edolphus [NY-10]
Rep Wasserman Schultz, Debbie [FL-20]
All are ultra-liberals and all are from states with strict gun control and OUT OF CONTROL Gang-related activities. Do you think the Gang members really get their weapons legally. If you do you need to go to a SHRINK and get your brain checked out because it isn't working properly...
