Dear Elected Officials,
I am extremely disheartened, as are millions of my countrymen, at the latest news from the proposed health care bill. As many of us are terrified of becoming a socialist state, this latest news causes absolute fear. Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Tom Barthold recently hand wrote a note to Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) regarding the punishment for not complying with the proposed illegal bill forcing terrible health care at an extortionist's price. Pay a $1900 fee or go to jail for a year and pay a $25,000 fine? Does his note remind you of communist China? Why should I be penalized and pay even more taxes so that my health care becomes dominated by the government? I do feel terribly sorry for those without health insurance, but charity cannot and should not be constituted by our government. Legislating morality is exactly what this country was founded against! If any of you feel so strongly, get out your own checkbooks and start paying for others yourself.

I myself have private insurance I purchased independently as I am a consultant for financial institutions. I understand a lot of people are not in the position to pay for insurance this way, but as I debated with someone who voted for President Obama, I reminded them that this is the land of opportunity and freedom. You can do anything you put your mind to in this country. You can practically go to college for free if you don't have the means to and can make anything of your life you wish. I am not cold or heartless, but I am tired of paying tens of thousands of dollars in taxes every year and being penalized for working hard and making something of my life. I am not wealthy, by far, but a middle income tax payer putting her husband through graduate school to improve both our lives. If someone is capable of working but relies on government handouts, which we know there are many who do, then why should I give them my hard earned wages for anything? You are your own responsibility, and if you can't take care of your own life or your family, then do something about it.

This is NOT the solution, and the fact that this bill has not yet passed should tell everyone that there are still millions and millions of Americans who refuse for you to take away our freedom, our liberty and our earnings.

I beg each of you to consider carefully my letter and opinion, and stop this atrocity from happening. Though I did not vote for any of you as I am a Libertarian, I am asking you, as my elected officials, to listen to your constituents and remember this in your vote. If it does pass, my husband and I will gladly go to jail and not pay any fines for what we consider is illegal and completely against what this country stands for.
