Reform the PATRIOT Act

To:
Rep. Darrell Issa

September 24, 2009

The Patriot Act should be repealed. We are living through a time as bad as that of the McCarthy era. The Attorney General's Guidelines released on May 30, 2002 rescinds anti-countelpro and authorizes the FBI to monitor and conduct surveillance of religious and political groups without evidence of wrongdoing. 71 fusion centers around the U.S. operate with little oversight. Firemen and neighborhood groups along with police are operating like the Red Squads of old surveilling and harassing citizens put on Watch Lists. 1.1 million people are now on watch lists being deprived of due process. Police are using GPS to track Americans without getting warrants. The states secrets doctrine is being used to hide government misconduct. There has been an expansion of government authority to conduct domestic surveillance without evident of wrongdoing. Our civil liberties are under attack as never before. You were right, Hillary, Obama was just a speech. His is largely continuing the Bush policies on surveillance law. If Senator Feingold had become President Feingold the nation would not be in the unbelievable mess it is in.
