Subject:
Reform the PATRIOT Act

Even better than reforming it: let the damn thing die.
America, like other countries, has had its darker periods. The age of Joseph McCarthy stands out as a prime example, and much bad or merely pointless legislation that his red-baiting inquisitions brought into being still exists. But the understandable climate of fear following 9/11, deliberately whipped into hysteria by the Bush administration to advance its own partisan ends, is another such dark period and it gave birth to the PATRIOT Act. The most patriotic thing we can do now, is to let this package of bad and un-American ideas that were given the force of law in this dark period pass away without mourning.
Please, do not vote to retain this law.
